shop update today!

We’re testing out a new time slot for tomorrow’s shop update - tune into the shop on…

FRIDAY, October 25th @ 10pm EDT

We hope that people on the other side of the world have a chance to shop during their normal waking hours this time. Plus it’ll be a fun excuse for us to have a little knit night here in Mooresburg. If this time slot doesn’t suit your schedule or time zone as well as you would like, please know that we will continue to offer updates at a variety of times in the hope that they can be fair and accessible to as many people as possible.

Did I mention that there is a lot of yarn ready for tonight? With our dedicated Knits About Winter KAL ready to kick off on October 28th (check into Pom Pom’s Ravelry Group to get the scoop and participate) we have dyed garment quantities and kits in some beautiful colours both new and old.

We decided not to make any garment kits this time round, with the hope that you have more access to the yarns colours and colour combinations that YOU want. But, if you’d like some help selecting colours for a project like the Eastwind Jacket, we picked out some of our favourites combos yesterday…

…Eastwind is knit holding a strand of Shadow DK and a strand of Mohair Lace together throughout and perhaps my favourite thing about double stranding in knitting is the opportunity to mix new colours! So choose one of these combinations or let them inspire you or pick out something else entirely!

* Just to repeat, these are not kits, only examples of colour combinations we chose from the yarn that will be available later on today.

*Skyhill Kits contain enough yarn to knit either the Hat OR the Mittens. If you wish to knit a matching set you will need to purchase two kits.

PERSEPHONE MITTEN KITS:

Expect a little change (upgrade?) to the mitten liner yarn choice in these Persephone Mitten Kits. Each Kit contains a 100g skein of Natural (mid grey) Persephone yarn and a 25g skein of Mohair Lace to use for the mitten liners. We’ve tried it, it’s amazing and I might never go back!

COLOUR PREVIEWS

In addition to these Kits, there will be lots of Shadow DK, Mohair Lace, Sock, Merino Fingering and Sock Minis available with just a tiny bit of our cherished Mooresburg DK and Persephone yarns too.

Mohair Lace…

Winter Shadows Mohair. It’s a bold new direction (and Blue) for us, but think of shadows in the snow on a bright and clear day.

Wild Rose Mohair. Wild Rose has been around for a long time, but is going through some changes at the moment. I think that this batch is especially beautiful.

Cygnet Mohair. Quickly becoming one of my FAVOURITE colours, Cygnet enhances everything I pair it with.

Shadow DK…

We made sure that there would be a BIG selection of Shadow DK on hand as the season for bundling up approaches. Full Moon, Skyhill & Eastwind each use Shadow DK and it would make a great substitution for the Mooresburg Dk used in Winterberry, Barn and Soirée too. You could just about knit all of Knits About Winter using this beautiful and moody yarn, how handy!

The colour selection this time around is really interesting and beautiful. We hope it inspires some new colour choices and combinations. We created these shades while admiring glorious Autumn here in Grey County and couldn’t help but be inspired by the season’s golden glow and rich tones. There are lots more beauties in store this evening at 10pm EDT.

I’ve been thinking of this update as an opportunity to shop for and plan a project to knit in the upcoming Knits About Winter KAL. The only trouble is that I’ve planned at least four projects! Much of last week was spent swatching and dreaming and the results are (I think) pretty darn interesting…

four very different swatches for my next BARN sweater.

four very different swatches for my next BARN sweater.

Rules are meant to be broken, right? In the case of my next Barn sweater it looks like I’ll certainly be ignoring pattern gauge! From left to right I knit these four swatches for Barn using …

1. Mohair Lace in Eclipse (cotton candy colours) held double on 6.5mm needles 2. Shadow DK in Mineral and Mohair Lace in Pollen held double on 5.5mm needles 3. Mohair Lace in Faded Tomato on 5.5mm needles and 4. Organic Merino DK in Stone on 4.5mm needles.

I love them all and have no clue how I’ll choose so keep an eye out for four new and unusual Barn Sweaters in the world!
