I almost kept this.

As Friday’s update (quickly) approaches, we are busy here tagging, counting and organizing as usual. Also as usual, I have favourites that I am quite excited to be sharing with you now.

During VIOLA’s hiatus, I enjoyed some playful time in the dye studio experimenting with new and old colour ideas. The sort of work that is too easily brushed aside during busy times but is so important, not only in order to create new colours but also to replenish creative spirit. During my experimenting, I realized that I have begun to lean into enjoying cooler colours. For anyone who knows me (including myself) this development has come as a great shock! There will still be lots of pink on Friday, but you’ll find some really lovely new blues in the mix too. I hope you enjoy!

In the previous post, I broke down the NEW YARNS that are making their debut on Friday. We have had these yarns around the studio since the pre-Covid days so it’s quite amazing that I haven’t knit all of it by now.

West Country DK and 4 Ply are spun in North Devon by our friends at John Arbon Textiles. These yarns are a satisfying blend of 50% Exmoor Blueface, 30% Blue Faced Leicester & 20% Wensleydale. Delightful to dye and to knit, they have beautiful stitch definition and crisp, rich colour. I have discovered that cables are especially lovely with this yarn and have been knitting my way through a ball of DK and a stitch dictionary. It’s becoming an obsession…

Plenty of garment quantities will be available in both DK and 4 Ply weights and oh what lovely sweaters this yarn will make…(a cabled cardigan is in my future, hardly surprising)

In keeping with my transition to a cooler palette, CROCUS has become a new favourite. A cool and dusty mauve that is not quite pink. It has become the top colour choice for my cabled cardigan.

Above colours are (from left to right): Faded Tomato, Fireside, Crazy Pink, Giant Peach, Silverbirch, Moonrock, Prophecy, Stovepipe, Eclipse, Garden Ghost, Bluebell, Frozen Earth, Frost, Heron Blue, Sea Storm, Evergreen, Mineral & Pollen.

The last in my list of new yarns are these little jewels! The knitting possibilities are endless with these little skeins and they have me dreaming of a full colour palette in mohair. Each is 20g, but goes a surprisingly long way. Perfect for adding accents to your knitting, blending with other yarns or with more mohair minis, the applications are endless.

We have picked out a few of our favourite colour combinations for you and are offering them in bundles of 5 mini skeins (that’s 100g or 2 of our ‘big’ 50 skeins).

Mohair Mini bundles are priced at $112 CAD.

*Our kits have a $2 CAD fee on top of the cost of the yarn, which covers the time and materials that go into planing, creating and packaging these special collections.

Alongside these Minis are our old favourites (now known as ‘Big Mohair’). Here are some of my top picks…

As always, please reach out with any questions to hello@violaandthemoon.com. We are usually in a flap during the lead up to shop updates, but will do our best to respond to you as quickly as possible.

We hope that you are keeping safe and healthy amid these crazy times on Earth.
